Changeover Dinner

The reins of office were passed on in a gala celebration to induct the new President and leadership team for the Rotary Year, 2021-22.

Rotarian Ron Malcom adeptly kept the evening on track as Master of Ceremonies

President Susanne hosted the ceremony and began by presenting and speaking to her Annual Report for the Rotary Year ended 30 June, 2021  While it was an especially challenging year caused by disruptions due to COVID and leadership changes, there was much to celebrate about 2020-21, including a successful Sculpture Exhibition, support the club gave to a member who suffered material loss during a bushfire and the regeneration of a paddock through the planting of 600 native saplings.  For a copy of the 2021-22 Annual Report,Click HERE

In her address, in addition to paying tribute to her club leadership team, she thanked the many Past Presidents of the club who helped keep the club functioning by standing in for the President during club meetings.  Click HERE to view her remarks in full.

One of the highlights of a President's year is recognising outstanding efforts of deserving members of the club.  The Scott Hosking Award is presented to the club member who stood out for their commitment and energy.  This year it was awarded to Pauline Annear for her ongoing contribution to the club and for continuing in the dual role of Treasurer and Director, Community Engagement.

Dan Edmonds, Andrew Cass, John Osborne, Greg Russell were awarded Paul Harris pins in the presence of President Susanne (L) and DG David Jones (R).  Dan Edmonds and Greg Russell's pin included a sapphire as second time recipients.

PDG Dick Wilson then stepped up to the podium to award additional Paul Harris Fellowships with sapphire to President and District Deputy Governor-Areas Susanne, for her incredible support to the club and to the District in 2020-21.  He then also presented one more PHF with 2 Sapphires to John Osborne, Director Club Administration for his, all too often, unsung dedication and commitment to the club and its members over almost 4 decades.

President Susanne, then presided over the over the Induction of 2021-22 President, Stephen Blacketer.

In his first address as President, Stephen acknowledged the contribution President Susanne had made to the club in one of the most challenging years in the club's 48 year history.  Not only had she stepped in on short notice as Acting President while already holding down a senior and very demanding District role, she kept the club together when COVID ravaged the community.

He then introduced the members of his 2021-22 Leadership Team.

(L-R) PP Susanne Marie, John Osborne, Director - Club Administration,
Ken Patterson, Director - International, Pauline Annear, Treasurer and
                             Director, Community Engagement.
Absent: Michelle Lesiw, Secretary, and Malcolm Horton, President Elect.
The position of Director - Youth yet is to be named.

President Stephen outlined his suggestions and priorities for the year ahead.
  1. Exploit the Friends of Rotary program in new and innovative ways to encourage involvement.
  2. Concentrate on local projects such as bus shelters as a community good and to promote the Rotary brand.
  3. Generate new partnerships and promote other local community groups, perhaps initially in a "Community Organisations Showcase".
  4. Hopefully another Sculpture Exhibition might be possible.
  5. Consider creating a sensory park or playground for the disabled.
  6. Finally, maybe this year the Small Acreage Field Days could become a reality after so much planning and effort has gone into the event to date.
Yet again, the Mount Osmond Golf Club proved to be the ideal venue for this special event, putting on a great feast and handling every demand in stride and with a smile.

Assembled guests were left with a strong sense that past had been properly honoured and that the future was secure under the new leadership tram.

Next Meeting

This Monday we will be departing from the usual committee meeting format and will wait until after the Club Forum before the new committees meet for the first time on the first Monday in August. We are lucky to have as our speaker Josh Spiers, who is the Community and Social Planning Officer for the Adelaide Hills Council. Stephen, Pauline and Dick had a very productive meeting with Josh last week and he will be outlining further ways we may be able to work together with the Council.

An Update from our Roving Travel and Tourism Correspondents, Malcolm and Jane Horton

They continues to be travel safe and well but able to communicate with only intermittent internet connectivity. After a couple of days at Fitzroy Crossing and a boat tour up the spectacular Geikie Gorge, they made their way through Derby to reach Broome which they described as "much happier and prosperous town".

Half your luck, Folks!

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
