Hi All and a special welcome to Nick Ditter.

We do not normally have a newsletter when there is no meeting but I am making an exception here. I will be away for the next two meetings and back for the meeting with Onkaparinga Rotary Club on Wednesday 19th February (see more below).

My sister Moira and I will be going on the Queen Elizabeth from Adelaide to New Zealand via Tasmania and Melbourne and then I will have 2 more weeks in New Zealand visiting friends.  This was booked 18 months ago…. Before I knew I was going to be President, Stage Manager at the Mildura Conference or Deputy Governor - Areas. A little tricky but very timely in other ways.  I am going to be very busy for the next two or three years, I think!

It was a great evening organised by Colin Fraser and Robert Koehne to go to the Uraidla Brewery, Bakery and the Hotel where we heard Colin’s daughter Julie Peter speak on her journey of transforming the Crafers Hotel, the Uraidla Hotel and soon to do the Nairne Hotel.

It is wonderful that Julie and Ed Peter have such a strong and clear vision from which our Adelaide Hills have greatly benefitted. It was fascinating to hear Julie’s story and her proud mother and father’s faces as she told it!

Rotarian Colin Fraser with his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter!
L-R: Colin, Coco and Julie Henry, Sally Fraser and Ed Peter

We inducted Nick Ditter as a member of our club at our last meeting..

He was appointed to the Youth Committee with Owen Bevan (who was unable to be there) as his mentor.  Welcome Nick!!  And good luck with the work you will be doing for RYLA and Youth in the District.

Stirling Ladies Probus Club have sent a donation to our club of $500 to be put with our donation for local bushfire recovery.  Our thanks to them.

Our club has worked hard with a number of BBQs that we have taken part in this month.

January kicked off with a BBQ Breakfast for the riders and staff of both the Women's and Men's Tour Down Under.  The efforts of Grant Andrew, John Osborne, Malcolm Horton, Robert Koehne, Dick Wilson, Steve Blacketer, and Michelle Lesiw were much appreciated by their very tired customers!

The Australia Day BBQ yesterday at Mylor Oval was also a resounding success although attendance was sparse.  David Hogan organised a crack team of people and did transporting of Flossie as well as BBQ trailers, caravan etc.  Thank you to everyone in the teams who participated!

Josh Teague, Member for Heysen, stopped by to thank the team
and to conduct some quality control!

On Mon 3rd February the meeting format will be a little different.  We want to see how it works having everyone sit at a table with their Committee and conducting committee meetings before being served dinner. I know there will be disparity in size of groups but can we give it a go.  I am sure that when they conclude PP Neil Wickens will regale you with at least one of his jokes before closing the meeting. Pauline will give more information closer to the time.

You will hear from your director with an agenda prior to the evening.  Please make every effort to attend.

Mary Wing will be our guest speaker on 10th Feb so please make her welcome.

On my return we are joining with Rotary Club of Onkaparinga on Wednesday 19th Feb. (Mon 17th meeting is cancelled so our meeting night will be with Onkaparinga Club.) Pauline will be seeking numbers (it is a partners’ night) soon.

It is the 42nd Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Stirling Chartering their club and President Russell Camens has arranged for us to all meet at Anderson Hill Winery at 407 Croft Rd, Lenswood.  I am sure that Russell will talk about how anyone can assist with bushfire recovery. They were affected by the bushfire and this will support them. For $40 you will receive 2 glasses of wine or soft drink, mezes platters to share to begin, followed by pizzas and Chunky chips.  Very good value. Pay at winery, cash or EFTPOS on arrival.

For a report on the District Fencing Project in support of the devastating bushfires in our area, Dick Cuttle of Calperum Station who is heading up the project, has sent us an update on his team's recent activities.  More volunteers most welcome!  To view the report, CLICK HERE.

I hope you keep on enjoying Rotary as much as I do and are proud to be Rotarians.

See you all on February 19th

Yours in Rotary
Susanne Marie   President

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
