Last Week's Meeting

President Stephen was proud to induct Peter Campbell as our first new member of 2022.

It was smiles all around as Peter made the commitment to Rotary and members welcomed him with open arms! He has been invited to speak at next week's meeting to share his story.

Unfortunately his sponsor, Ron Malcolm, was unable to attend.  He was supporting Linda who is seriously ill in hospital. Members extended their love and best wishes to them both.

The main item on the Agenda, though, was to review the the 3 year (2021-23) plan as adopted by the Board last year with a view to identifying our priorities for the rest of this year.  In groups and in a plenary session, members expressed their thoughts about priorities.  A summary of the discussions will be reported to the Board which will deliberate and determine final directions.

You may find a copy of the 3 year plan HERE

President Stephen took the time to update the members about progress being made in the development of the proposed Piccadilly Pub Crawl. He had the opportunity to discuss it with Simon Jones, Chair of the Stirling Business Association (SBA), who was quite excited about progressing the matter in partnership with the SBA.  As a joint, fundraising venture, it could seriously advance the Stirling Oval Pavilion project.  A subsequent meeting of the SNBA Board endorsed the concept.

SBA members will attend a joint meeting with the club in the near future at which we will hear from Rosanne Hurren, the architect selected to develop the plans for the new structure.

Stirling Market Sausage Sizzle

Although this event was reported last week with pictures, it is important to note that, although the weather was terrible and numbers were down, our team performed magnificently and stuck it out to the end.

Folks, you have done a lot to cement the reputation of the club as a "can do" organisation, able to get the job done, on short notice and even under appalling conditions!

Shed Working Bee

Several members once again rolled up their sleeves to help clean up and rearrange club storage at our shed on Old Mt Barker Road.

The most impressive result was freeing up the second door which had remained in place for as long as anyone can remember!  Posing here, showing off the huge, double door opening are (L to R) John G, Malcom, John N, John O, Pauline and Greg. Again, Dan is doubling as a photographer.

Now we have a place for everything...and everything is in its place!

Rotary Australia Day Live Broadcast

For those of you who were unable to watch the special Rotary Australia Day Live Broadcast from Melbourne earlier this week, a video of the event has been posted HERE.  Watch it for some great entertainment and to hear from some impressive Rotarians and their achievements.

The event was hosted by Amanda Wendt, DG Elect, RI District 9800.   Among the invited speakers were  RI Director Zone 8 Jesse Harmon (Left), and Ron Finkle AM (Right)

Jessie Harmon congratulated everyone for surviving, and thriving, in spite of COVID and was looking forward to the time when we can all come together again. She put a plug in for the ZONE 8 Conference in Canberra in October and for the RI International Conference to be held in April next year when thousands of Rotarians from all over the world descend on Melbourne.

Ron Finkel AM spoke about the exciting Rozana Project, improving health infrastructure in Palestine with the support of medical institutions in Israel.  Funding comes from Rotary Health.

Professor Graham Samuel AC spoke about Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) issues facing corporate bodies today. ESG is a paradigm shift in corporate governance as investors  increasingly apply these non-financial factors as part of their analysis process to identify material risks and growth opportunities.

Meanwhile in Canada

Our (Canadian) editor appreciates the kind things people have said about the items he posts from time to time about Canada.  He promises, though, that this will be the last time he will indulge himself...

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
