It was great to have a really good number at our first meeting and lovely to see a few people back from being away!

The meeting went well as PP Greg Russell imparted much knowledge relating to the proposed Small Acreage Field Days on 4th and 5th April. (Click anywhere on the image below for more information and to view the full Prospectus)

At the meeting, Greg addressed the challenges from earlier proposals to which workable solutions had been found.  Risk had been carefully considered and the committee was confident it could be managed. Much work from a strong committee has progressed plans greatly.
Seen here conducting a site inspection are committee members
Andrew Cass, Ken Patterson, Malcolm Horton and Event Co-ordinator,
Greg Russell.

Greg then asked us to consider whether we were willing to fully support it as it needs many personnel to make it work.  Following a proposal from the floor it was unanimously given the go ahead by those present.

Volunteers Required!

There are several fundraising and promotional events coming up over the next couple of weeks.  As we have a few people away, we need as many of you as possible to volunteer to help out.

Up first is the Women's Tour Down Under BBQ on 18 January in Stirling.  You may "Register for the Event" by clicking the link to that event below and adding your name to the roster.

We also welcomed Nick Ditter to the meeting on Monday.  He has been involved over a number of years with RYLA in a number of capacities and wants to continue working on District level with youth.  As a local resident in Crafers, he is choosing to make RC of Stirling his home club. Please help him feel welcome.

As I mentioned last week, on Friday I attended the celebration of Gavin Dallow’s life. It was attended by about 500 people, many of whom were Rotarians.  Gavin was an Assistant Governor in 9500 and would have been one of the new Area Governors under my wing in D9510.

The President Elect Training will be on 14th and 15th March and I am anxious to make sure we have a President Elect who is able to attend.  I hope someone will come forward very soon and welcome this position.  Please all search your conscience and mind and consider giving it a go.  Our club is dependent on having a President!

I received a message of concern re: the bushfires from Sandy Farquharson from Rotary Club of Stirling in Scotland.  Sandy said “please be assured of our support both now and in the future”.

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in Canberra has reluctantly been cancelled because of ongoing fire and smoke problems in Canberra.  The first session was held but cut short.

The Rotary Leadership Institute will be held on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd February. Click HERE for more information and to register.

I am again house-sitting for Dr Dick and Liz Wilson, enjoying this fabulous outlook while they are visiting relatives in Canberra and in Sydney.

Dick sent me an email from a former exchange student, Retno Kusfandi. An excerpt from his email:.

Everything is going on well with me. Time has gone by so fast. I am now 50 and I was staying with your (Dick and Liz) family in 1987-88, so it was 33 years ago.

I have my first son now is in his Rotary Exchange Year in USA. He is hosted by Rotary Club of Shawano in Wisconsin -USA. I am now also a member of Rotary Club Persada in Surabaya. (it is a new club). Rotary has 10 Rotary Clubs in the city of Surabaya."

Next Monday, 13 January, our guest speaker has titled her talk “A Hobbit’s Unexpected Adventure”.  Join former Leader of the Opposition (and former Rotary Club of Stirling member) Isobel Redmond as she recounts just some of the remarkable twists and turns of her unexpected journey from “The Shire” to almost becoming the first female Premier of South Australia.

I look forward to seeing you all as our year takes off in no uncertain measure.

There will be a board meeting on Monday evening following our meeting.

I look forward to seeing you all to hear Isobel on Monday evening.

Yours in Rotary
Susanne Marie   President

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
