It is hard to believe that August is already here and winter is well and truly under way. I am always amazed at how time passes so quickly. It must mean we are having fun!
What a fascinating speaker we had last Monday with Bryn Williams imparting his knowledge on plastics of various forms with very long and unpronounceable names. It was good to hear about the evolution of plastics and why they are so much a part of our world and to hear some of the good reasons for their existence.
The negative impact of the excessive amount of plastic is becoming more and more apparent and Bryn reminded us why we should be very mindful in the way that we dispose of those and other products that can have, and have already have had, a devastating impact on our world. We can all play our part in minor and major ways by disposing of many of those products in the best possible way or finding ways to re-use them
It is also important to be mindful in what we accept when we purchase goods and that we don’t just accept unnecessary excessive packaging.
Bryn held our attention and many people commented and questioned Bryn after his very interesting session.
On Monday 5th August, we have a great night lined up. Andrew Cass will be giving us his new member talk with anecdotes about his life and experiences which I know will be fascinating to us all. I love hearing about the different journeys people have taken in getting to where they are now.
I am also delighted to say that we will have two new member inductions on Monday evening. Make sure you are there to welcome both Michelle Lesiw and Malcolm Horton as they become our newest members. They have both enjoyed getting to know some of us and are both looking forward to being part of our club. Please make them feel welcome.
Our directors are gearing up to have their first committee meeting next week and you will be hearing from your Club Director if you haven’t already, to work out when your committee will be holding its meeting in the first week of the month. Some will be held before or after Monday night’s meeting while others may, by mutual consent, hold the meeting on a different day.
I look forward to seeing an exceptional roll call of members on Monday.
Yours in Rotary.
