From President Neil
Meeting Monday 3 March:
At our meeting a couple of Mondays ago we were addressed by Barry Klose well-known for his Supermarkets around the Adelaide hills.
Barry gave us a detailed history of his business starting with a store opened by his grandfather, Charlie, in 1893 in Blumberg (now Birdwood). This type of store was revolutionary in the fact that customers could walk around and serve themselves instead of having someone hand them the items they wished to purchase. One big advantage, apart from speeding up throughput, is that it also leads to a certain amount of impulse buying rather than adhering to a fixed shopping list.
Responsibility for the business has passed down the family line and now, with the involvement of Barry's grandson it is now in its fifth generation with six stores and three bottleshops around the hills and, with plans to expand further, the future looks 'rosy'.
Barry's talk led to a lot of reminiscing along the lines of 'I remember when......'.
Thank you, Barry.

CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK
The ClubRunner App has been upgraded and now has a number of new features. One of these is the ability to sign up and register for events - a much easier option for those of you who use your phones a lot. Please take the time to explore what the App has to offer - it is downloadable from the App Store or Google Play depending on which brand of phone you have. You will need to sign in the first time with your ClubRunner user name and password. Hint: after you have signed in, leave it signed in on your phone - much quicker to use every time if you do.
