President’s Ponderings

Greetings everyone.   Another week of interesting weather.   There was very low cloud cover in Bickles Road but lovely and warm inside the house.  I trust you all stayed safe and warm.

There is always a lot to do and to get a handle on in the first few weeks of being President.  I have enjoyed many long conversations and discussions with people from our club and from other organisations.  It is very important to me that we have good communication and that will be one of my aims during this year.

I spent a few hours with our very hard-working Treasurer Pauline as we started to put the budget together in preparation for Monday night’s board meeting following our general meeting.  On Tuesday I spent a similar amount of time with Dan who has picked up all aspects of the Secretary’s job and hit the ground running. These two roles are vital for the smooth running of any club.

We also have Directors who are applying themselves enthusiastically to their roles and looking at ways we can expand or change these roles.  Stay tuned for much more as the year goes on.
I am also grateful to all those who are enthusiastically taking on new roles or continuing with jobs they have previously done.  Each of you helps to make our club a vibrant club.  To all of you thank you for helping to get us off to a good start.

Even though PDG Dr Dick is travelling at the moment, he made a concerted effort to get our speaker programme off to a great start.  If you scroll through the sidebar you will see many of the upcoming events and speakers.

What a great meeting we had on Monday night.   There was such a great vibe and lots of people to listen to our fellow Rotarian John Norris and Lyn Norris give a great presentation on their recent trip to Budapest, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and much more.  They were able to experience and see some spectacular and beautiful sights as well as visit places of a more confronting nature. It was fascinating to listen to.   Thank you, John and Lyn, for the time and thought put in to your presentation.
I was delighted to receive applications for membership of our club from Michelle Lesiw and Malcolm Horton and we look forward to inducting them as full members once we have completed the enrolment process.

On Monday 29th July we have Bryn Williams as our guest speaker.  Pauline will give more information in a few days.

It was lovely to receive the report that follows from Gloria Trott from the Stirling Ladies Probus Club.

In the meantime, stay dry and warm.

Yours in Rotary
President Susanne Marie

Look what Gloria Trott said about Changeover!

Firstly I have to thank the Stirling Ladies Probus committee for asking me to attend the above function with my daughter, a substitute at the last minute, because my husband had spent the day in the Mt Barker Hospital emergency section with severe chest pain.

The evening was so very enjoyable. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the president elect Susanne Marie. Table 6 was our allocated table where three rotary couples were the most gracious of hosts and included us in conversation and made sure we were looked after the whole evening.

The three course meal could only be described as 10/10 for taste, choice and quantity.

The, Toast to Rotary International and the Response, to the Toast, both included history of, and current activities undertaken by Rotary Clubs. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
