President’s Ponderings

We are so lucky to have so many people in our club with so many skills and talents and what fun it is to see examples of what they have to offer.

On Monday night it was Neil Wickens (with some assistance from Socorro) who showed us how to learn a language and understand at least some of it in a very short time.  In this case it was Dutch, one of the many languages that Neil speaks fluently. Socorro also speaks a similar number of different languages.

Neil delighted us by weaving his way through a series of stages to help us trick our minds into thinking we can soon know a new language!  We even received a beautifully presented Diploma for our attendance!

What fun.  And we probably felt just a little bit clever at the end.  Thank you for a fun night Neil and Socorro.

Alan O’Donnell had a somewhat drier subject to present to us – that of Risk Management.  Alan does a great job in making sure we are legally covered for all insurance risks.  Everything we do requires a form to be filled out and filed just in case.

He was happy to have Neil’s sweetener to follow but well done Alan for presenting the nitty gritty to us in an understandable way.

Robert Hill’s occasional toast to another club somewhere else in the world, was the Rotary Club of Stirling, Scotland to which we offered a lovely toast in Australian Shiraz!!

Robert had some interesting facts to present about our sister club. He has been in communication with the club and they are waiting for us to visit them as they did us a few years ago.

Thank you, Robert, and for keeping us up to date on Welfare of our members.

There was a great buzz once more at the meeting and I thank all those who help make it all run smoothly.  Those from Dean Foote who arrives early to set up, Don Reid for taking our money at the door, Pauline for all of the background money stuff and David who stows our Rotary equipment at the end.  And the wonderful service we receive from our dedicated hotel staff.  And of course, our sergeant/MC Neil who does a great job.

Just to let you know we have decided to have an in-hotel celebration of our 45th Anniversary on 9th September.  Please put it in your diary now to ensure that you attend and hear from people who were in the club a long time ago and in more recent years.  The charge that night will be $25 and will include Birthday Cake!!  We hope to have a big roll up of past and present members and partners.  More information to follow.

On Sunday Dan Edmonds, Pauline Annear and I went to a Rotary seminar on Public Image. We were inspired with new ideas and I am sure you will hear more about it as time goes on.

Monday night saw a very productive board meeting after the club meeting and I am sure your directors will have a short summary report for you at the meeting on Monday evening.

Next Monday we will be hearing from our own Dan Edmonds at our meeting and I will leave it to Pauline to impart more information about that.  Be there to hear from another of our hard working club members on a fascinating subject…

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Keep staying warm and as healthy as possible.

Yours in Rotary
Susanne Marie   President

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
