Last Week's Meeting

On Monday we heard from our newest member, Peter Campbell.

Peter studied at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 1961 with an Honorary Degree in Physics before becoming a high school teacher. He then taught Climatology and Micrometeorology in the late 60s at the Universities of Newcastle and Macquarie respectively.

Pursuing an early interest in environmental issues, he was soon was researching and writing  environmental impact statements, even working on the very first major EIS in Australia on the original Moomba to Sydney pipeline. During this time he also worked on projects in South Africa, Namibia, Australia, US, China and Taiwan.

Peter’s interest then turned to, at the time, “advanced” computer technology to build classified Decision Support Tools for a number of clandestine US government agencies. He returned to Australia in late 2000  to work in organizational modelling (e.g. the complex operations of Sydney Rail) with UniSA and Wollongong where he continues to mentor students.

A fascinating and colourful life working at the, then, cutting edge of the nascent sciences of climatology and sophisticated and multi-layered modelling.

Updates from President Stephen

Out thanks to Greg and Dick who have stepped up to join President Stephen on the planned Piccadilly Pub Crawl organising committee but additional members will always be welcome!

In breaking news, an approach to the SBA to join forces  has been enthusiastically endorsed and together we will put on a great event next year with proceeds, it has been agreed, to go towards the building of the new Stirling Oval Pavilion!

In the next few weeks, we will host a joint meeting at which Rosanne Hurren, the architect selected to design the new Pavilion, will be make a presentation.

The proposal to arrange a Clay Pigeon Shooting event has had a positive response from club members.  The most likely venue is now the range in Monarto.

The Woodhouse Activity Centre on Spring Gully Road will host a vocational and social visit on our regular meeting night, 14 February, 2022.  It's a partners' night so bring your favourite Valentine...and don't forget to BYO drinks and chairs.

Please register your attendance HERE by 6pm Wednesday February 10.

Monday Night's Meeting

The meeting this week is in Committee. Please be on the lookout for your Chair's agenda and come prepared to contribute to discussions about activities for the rest of the Rotary year.

and the BIG one, not to be missed!

Melbourne has been selected to host the Rotary International Convention from 27 to 31 May, 2023.  Planning is well underway and, as always, it is sure to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear from the best world class speakers and to meet up with executives and fellow Rotarians from every corner of the world.  It's too early to register but not too early to start planning and maybe even to consider booking a room well before the many thousands arrive!

RI President Elect, Jennifer Jones' Theme for 2022-23

Jennifer Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, is the first woman appointed to lead RI in our 115 year history.

It's worth reading the explanation by the Australian graphic artist about the rationale for the design elements.

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
