Monday Night's Meeting

On Monday night we joined the Rotary Club of Mount Barker to hear from the Hon Martin Hamilton-Smith who gave us a thoughtful and informed presentation about the rise of the behemoth that is China and how Australia should respond strategically.

While right to be able to defend itself, Australia must recognise that China has suffered 200 years of humiliation in war and colonisation, and now seeks redress and its rightful place in the world .

Diplomacy, he believed, should be the tactic of choice to resolve differences in the region.

Next Meetings

There is no meeting on Monday (Labour Day).

The following meeting, on 11 October, however, is an important one; in the Rotary Calendar; our Annual General Meeting.

It is a regulatory requirement to hold an AGM within a few months of the end of the Rotary year to review the Constitution and By-Laws, receive a report from the Executive and to elect (or re-elect) Officers of the Club for the following year (2022-23).  This is to ensure continuity and to give elected officers sufficient time to undergo training before taking the reins.

ANY member may self-nominate or nominate ANY other member for a position on the Board to take office on 1 July, 2022. Nominations must be in writing and include the name of the person proposing a candidate AND the signature of the candidate being nominated.

A Nomination Form is available for download HERE.  This completed form may be lodged with the Secretary, Michelle Lesiw, on michellerotary@gmail.com or at the AGM before the vote is held.

Can you Help?

Organising Committees for the Sculpture Exhibition in April and for the Hills Small Acreage Field Days in September next year are already hard at work but new members would be more than welcome to help realise these ambitious  events for 2022.

If you have some time and thoughts about how to make them even bigger and better than ever, call or write to Tim Boon for the Sculpture Exhibition and/or Greg Russell for the Field Days.

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
