President's Message

Malcolm Horton
member photo
President Malcolm has been under the weather the past few days.  We wish him a speedy recovery.

You would have seen his note, though, about the Memorial Gathering to celebrate the life of our friend and colleague, Don Reid.  Donna, Mark and Kerry have extended an invitation to members to attend.

The Gathering will be held at the LONGWOOD HALL, 706 LONGWOOD ROAD, BRADBURY S.A. on Saturday, OCTOBER 22ND at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers guests are welcome to donate to THE FRIENDS OF SCOTT CREEK CONSERVATION PARK on the day.

Committee Meetings

There was a lot of animated discussion on Monday night and it appears we will have a busy fundraising and social activity program in the lead up to the Holiday Season including the Bonfire Night, the Christmas Party and selling tickets at Markets and Fairs as well as catering at the Callington Show.  Whew!

Chairs are reminded to provide Michelle with Minutes, a short summary or bullet points arising from Committees deliberations.

Next Monday's Meeting

It will be an exciting and entertaining meeting on Monday night when we will hear from Heidi Underdorben, Past President of the of the RC Adelaide, the oldest and largest club in South Australia.

Adelaide has taken on the lead role in in organising local events and projects to celebrate Rotary's 100th anniversary in Australia.  A signature imitative is the Peace Pole Project which we have already agreed to support.

PDG Jeff Neale will attend to the Club Citation for achieving our ambitious objectives set in 2021-22 and we will be joined by Jess Hazell, who we sponsored for the Rotary Sailing Challenge aboard the Tall Ship, "One and All"

Heysen Trail Trek for Rotary Health

The following is a kind note sent to PDG Dick on behalf of the group who all genuinely appeared to enjoy the hospitality afforded them by our club.

"Hi Dick,

Now that the Heysen Trek is completed, I would like to offer my sincere thanks for being a part of the hosting for our third night. I realise that clubs have many commitments and that members are very busy, so I am very grateful that you were able to take up the challenge and assist us with our home hosting. All the walkers were most impressed by the generosity of their hosts and very grateful to be able to relax in comfort in a home rather than the impersonal atmosphere of a hotel room. They greatly enjoyed chatting to their hosts and sharing experiences. Not only did the home hosting save us a considerable amount of money which we have been able to donate back to ARH in your club's name, but it was also an ideal opportunity for the six non-Rotarians to be exposed to Rotary, its projects and community service and to share ideas. The Rotarians were also happy to swap ideas and projects and I have received much positive feedback.

I have transferred $520 to RC Stirling for the home hosting offered by yourself ,James & Liz, Susanne Marie, Tim & Jan, Peter & Caroline, Grant and Lee, Stephen & Sharon and Dan & Jill. Thank you very much for donating this money back to ARH. A big thank you to yourself and Liz for opening your home to such a lovely evening gathering and for your very kind donation of time and money for the delicious lunch rolls for day 4.

All 4 nights were managed very well and the walkers experienced a variety of evenings - quiet home hosting, several couples together, club meeting BBQs and social get togethers. All pick ups and drop offs were successful with no walkers being left behind anywhere. All luggage was successfully transported. Thank you very much to all your helpers with the transport.

The online donation link (https://australian-rotary-health.giveeasy.org/heysen-trail) and direct transfers to ARH (BSB 112 879 ACct 065 433 595) will remain open for the rest of the month as it is Mental Health Awareness month. If you wish to donate further to the Heysen Trek for ARH, please use either of these methods using "heysen and your club name" as a reference. At this stage we have cleared over $16,000 which is a great result.

By all accounts, the encounter was also an enriching experience for all of us as well!

And Finally, a Couple of Laughs!

and you might (or might not) appreciate this one!

A group of 40 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally , it was agreed that they should meet at the ocean view restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.

10 years later, at 50 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the ocean view restaurant because the food there was very good and the wine selection was good also.

10 years later at 60 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the ocean view restaurant because they could eat there in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.

10 years later, at 70 years of age,the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the ocean view restaurant because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and they even had an elevator.

10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the ocean view restaurant because they had never been there before.

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
