How to Re-energize Friends of Rotary
At last Monday's meeting, Rennis Lodewickus and Sharon Pratt shared some insights gained from the Mobilong Club's initiative to revamp their Friends of Rotary program.
Following a review and much consultation, they enhanced the benefits of membership and made a real effort to include the Friends in club activities, including regular meetings and special events. Friends were given the opportunity to support particular community projects or events and receive appropriate recognition for it.
This changed the focus on the partnership to ensure their Friends received value for money. An important change to reflect the changed dynamic was to promote the Friends of Rotary program as a Marketing and Promotion initiative and to invoice accordingly. Not being a registered charity, donations to Rotary cannot be claimed as a business expense, thus allowing businesses to claim a tax deduction.
Some good ideas there...

Did You Hear About...?
...the very well dressed, elegant, older customer who ordered the very best on the menu in the best restaurant in town, resulting in a very large tab.
At the end of the meal he was presented with the bill.
He said to the server, “I don’t know if you remember, but many years ago I was a bit down on my luck, but I had a meal here and when it came to pay, I couldn’t, and you publicly humiliated me by getting security to march me through the restaurant and throw me out on the street.”
The server blushed and apologised most profusely.
The customer replied, “Don’t worry old man. I’m just so sorry I’m going to have to ask you to do it again…”
