On Monday, last week, we learned more about the terrific job the Rotary Club of Onkaparinga does in restoring fencing lost to bushfires. Their support was offered to Stirling if we were interested in establishing a similar program on our own, or in partnership with other local clubs. The offer extended to training and access to a second fencing trailer equipped with basic fencing materials and tools.
Prior to the meeting, Stephen Blacketer and PP Dr Dick extended club hospitality
to our guests Dick Cuttle, PP Gordon Brice and PP Russell Camens.
Next Meeting
Join us on Monday for a very topical presentation.
Greg Russell will introduce A/Prof Sharon Morton of the College of Medicine and Public Health, who will speak on the subject of "COVID Vaccines – what does the future hold?"
BikeSA Coast to Coast Bike Ride
We still need two more Traffic Marshalls for a couple of hours on Sunday morning, 14 March. If you have misplaced your wallet card, Dan can confirm whether or not you were issued one. No experience is necessary and a briefing session on the day will give you confidence to support this major event.
Traffic, parking and speed restrictions will be put in place in Stirling. The Milan Terrace entrance to the parking area behind the shops will be closed and the only access will be from Pomona Road which may only be used for drop offs to prevent riders from parking there all day. (Volunteers, however, will be able to park there as the event will be over before the shops open for business.)
SA Schools Head of the River Regatta - Saturday 20 March - West Lakes
COVID Marshalls are urgently needed to help conduct this rowing event safely. Schools will view the races from their own designated "pod" to socially distance schools from one another. Each pod, of which there are 28, requires a COVID Marshall.
All prospective COVID Marshalls must undertake online training HERE. This unit is very straightforward and easy to "pass" and takes no more than 10-15 minutes.
Volunteers are invited to sign up HERE after they have successfully completed the training or commit to do so. We are in regular contact with Bec Francis to see how successful she has been with recruiting help from other sources as well, but we do need an early indication of the numbers we can supply.
Trees For Life
Our dedicated band of growers are reaching the midway point of the growing season. Due to the cool summer and unpredictable weather patterns, there has been mixed success. Many thanks to all of you who are persevering with managing watering, ensuring adequate sunshine, and transplanting. Below are some photos showing progress so far...
