Last Monday's Meeting

Our guest speaker on Monday was Terry Clark, who's fascinating topic was  'Rocking Horse Tribute to WW1 Digger'.
Approximately 25 years ago Terry did a wood carving course  and carved a beautiful rocking horse for his granddaughter. Some years later he decided that he wanted to take up his carving hobby again but was lacking in inspiration. A holiday trip to Ballarat saw Terry taking an interest in the renovation by arborists of some of the trees on the Avenue of Honour and even more interest in the stories of the diggers for whom the trees were planted. Thinking he had found his inspiration (he would carve a digger's bust), he managed to secure a very large branch from poplar tree number 725, brought it home and somehow it turned into another rocking horse! It's name is Dugald, after Dugald Walshe - the digger whose tree he used.

From our Intrepid Travelers

Broome is a really lovely place that reminds Jane and I of Darwin before cyclone Tracey (pre-1974).

There are loads of tourists here, 95% of whom are WA people. Cable Beach is very nice but like any wide sandy beaches of Australia, good sunsets feature as with all of the northern tropical areas.

                       Cable Beach                                         HorizontalFalls

We went to Willie Creek Pearl, one of three licenced pearl farmers; of which Cygnet Bay and the big one, Paspaley Pearls are the others. After visiting, we totally understand why cultured pearls are so expensive.

I went alone on a day tour to the Horizontal Falls in the Buccaneer Archipelago because Jane hates small planes. It was a Cesssna Caravan to Cape Levique and then on to Cockatoo Island to head back to Broome. I was lucky to be in the co-pilot seat on the plane all the way.

Tomorrow we are onto a dinosaur tour, as Broome has some of the best dinosaur print fossils in Australia and the world.
Just up my alley.

It has been hot during the day but the nights are cool.

We leave Monday to head south.

Regards to all.
Malcolm

Last Week's Challenge

How long has this monster roamed the deep blue sea?

No guesses this week, so NO WINNERS, even though ANY guess would have been the "closest" and would have won!

This monster Greenland Shark is 394 years old and has been roaming the depths since 1627!

What else happened in 1627 you may well ask?

Well how about the first recorded sighting of South Australia by Captain Francois Thijssen of the t' Gulden Zeppaert in January, of 1627....and in that year, black gunpowder was first used in mining!

Unusual Homes, Part 1

A house built on a rock on the Drina River is seen near the western Serbian town of Bajina Basta, about 160 km (99 miles) from Belgrade, on May 22, 2013. The house was built in 1968 by a group of young men who decided that the rock on the river was an ideal place for a tiny shelter, according to the house's co-owner, who was among those involved in its construction.

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
