This Week's Logos
The first one's secret is not immediately obvious but is actually quite clever
Sony sold its Vaio TV and computer businesses to a Japanese investment business a couple of years ago, but the logo is worthy of mention here.
This was not just an example of a graphic designer wanting get fancy with their fonts for the word “Vaio,”. There is actually a meaning behind that original look.
Sony wanted the logo to represent the integration of analog and digital technology. The “V” and “A” were drawn to show an analog wave. The “I” and “O” were there to represent binary, which is a computer language comprised of ones and zeros.
You’ve seen the mountain on its logo and probably noted that each piece of chocolate in a Toblerone bar is also in the shape of a mountain.
What you have probably NOT noticed though is the white shape on the left side of the logo. Turns out, it’s a bear. The bear is the official symbol of the Swiss town of Bern, the original home of Toblerone.
