Dominique Birbeck on Eye Care
On Monday night, Dominique Birbeck asked us "Who's looking after your eyes".
Dominique Burbank proved to be a knowledgeable
and accomplished advocate for eye health
She is, in fact, an Eye Health Educator at Sight for All, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to eliminate blindness in Australia and around the world. She also works as an Optometrist at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and travels to rural and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to deliver eye care.
Pauline, as Chair for the evening, presented Dominique, in thanks, with a bottle of our much-prized Shiraz.
Stirling Christmas Pageant
The Pageant makes a welcome return this year, although the route will be reversed, proceeding from the Oval to Druids Avenue. We will be setting up the caravan there to sell Bahn Mi Rolls but need one or two more to fill the roster. The time required will be from 3:00pm to approx 7:30pm or whenever we sell out. If you can help out, please Sign in HERE .
Movie Night for End Polio Now!
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Mt Barker, we have been invited to join them to watch an amazing, true story about one woman's quest to find the body of King Richard III. Staring the wonderful Sally Hawkins and Steve Coogan, this is one not to miss!
The screening will be at the Wallis Cinema, Mt Barker this Thursday night starting at 6:00pm for refreshments with the movie to start at 7:00pm. Pauline will purchase your tickets at $25. Please deposit $25pp into the Community Account at BSB 105 079 Account # 305 309 340 and include your NAME and "Movie Night"

Trees For Life
A working bee to fill tubes ready for seeding will be happening this Friday Dec 2 at 10:00am in the shed.
We have been given 5 boxes to grow on this year. All the tubes need to be filled on Friday but there are three different seeding dates - two boxes now, two boxes by late December and one box in early January. (Pauline will take this one as they are away for Christmas).
At this stage we are short one volunteer to grow, but many hands will make light work on Friday for the tube filling. If you can help in any way, please SIGN UP HERE.

Monday night saw the last meeting to be hosted by our much loved Charlie Denver who is relocating to a a new sister hotel in Brompton. While we, and her colleagues, regret her departure, we can but wish her well as she takes on new challenges in the next step of her career.
Thanks, from all of us, Charlie!
PP Stephen stood in for President Malcom who was travelling, in wishing
Charlie every possible personal and professional success
S.O.S
An Airbus 380 is on its way across the Atlantic. It flies consistently at 800 km/h at 30,000 feet, when suddenly a Eurofighter with a Tempo Mach 2 appears.
The pilot of the fighter jet slows down, flies alongside the Airbus and greets the pilot of the passenger plane by radio: "Airbus, boring flight isn’t it? Now have a look here!"
He rolls his jet on its back, accelerates, breaks through the sound barrier, rises rapidly to a dizzying height, and then swoops down almost to sea level in a breathtaking dive. He loops back next to the Airbus and asks: "Well, how was that?"
The Airbus pilot answers: "Very impressive but watch this!"
The jet pilot watches the Airbus, but nothing happens. It continues to fly straight at the same speed. After 15 minutes, the Airbus pilot radios, "Well, how was that?
Confused, the jet pilot asks, "What did you do?"
The AirBus pilot laughs and says: "I got up, stretched my legs, walked to the back of the aircraft to use the washroom, then got a cup of coffee and a chocolate fudge pastry."
The moral of the story is: When you’re young, speed and adrenaline seem to be great. But as you get older and wiser, you learn that comfort and peace are more important.
