Our guest contributor for this week is Malcolm Horton who served as Chair of a special event to discuss the plan to build the long wished for Pavilion on the Stirling Oval.
Last Monday we welcomed Rosanna Hurren (Hurren Architects) and Simon Jones (Chair of the Stirling Business Association and Chair of the Pavilion Foundation). They co-presented “Stirling Oval – A Community Vision”
The Stirling Pavilion is the vision of the Foundation to revitalise the Stirling Oval precinct and community.
Rosanna brought plans and brochures for all to view, and addressed the design and concept for the vison. The design of the pavilion was inspired by her visiting various ovals throughout Kent, south of London. The design features new toilets and change rooms as well as a large outdoor area adjacent to the main bar and kitchen & dining area. A large meeting room will accommodate various groups of the community. In front of the pavilion is a landscaped terrace for outside viewing of any oval activity..
L-R: President Stephen, Malcolm Chair of the meeting,
Rosanna Hurren and and Simon Jones.
Simon brought a framed water colour painting of the vision and presented a brief history of the area from the sunken, damp paddock of the early 1900s to the present Stirling Oval and mediocre, toilet block and small shelter. His and the Foundation vison is to see the project available to all the community with the typical, regular weekend sports like cricket as well as many other activities.
The estimated cost of the project is $2 million and $400,000 has already been donated. The Foundation is pursuing funds through the State and Federal governments as well as any other donations from the community and business. The plans and other documents are being finalised for planning submission.
This was well received by the members with discussions around finances, timelines and AHC interaction. I highlighted that we are actively pursuing the Piccadilly Walk with the funds earned being donated to this project.
It was a casual, entertaining, informative and enjoyable evening.
