Thank you to those 18 of the 26 members (69%, one on leave) that attended our AGM, forum and club plan discussion, a good turnout. I accepted another year as president to hopefully continue what I have started for our club. Thank you to Area 10 Governor Shiralee Judge, for attending the evening.
We had a good forum discussion on what you want your club to address and how to proceed. Michelle and I will collate the results to update our strategic plan. The main issue is to act on this NOW and not just leave it as another discussion.
One particular point raised as a challenge for every member, was to consider inviting someone to a meeting within the next 3-6 months as well as providing a speaker. If each member achieved this goal, we would have 26 speakers and potentially as many new members.
I encourage all members and partners to attend the joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Onkaparinga, Wednesday 23 November 2022, which will be great social event as well. Further information will be provided next week.
I hope we can continue and improve the great community work as well as enjoy the fellowship.
Imagine Rotary
Annual General Meeting and Planning Night
The AGM, held last Monday was called to order by Greg Russell who was appointed to Chair the meeting.
The Minutes of the previous AGM were adopted and the Treasurer's Report was similarly dealt with. Pauline presented some very pleasing bank balances as at 30 June, 2022 providing a solid foundation for club operations and community programmes for the balance of the year. The final payment for the Timor Leste Water and Sanitation project has been issued to allow the completion of the works.
The following Officers were appointed for the 2024-25 Rotary Year:
President: Malcolm Horton
President Elect (for 2024-25): Vacant
Secretary: Vacant
Treasurer: Pauline Annear
Club Service: Michelle Lesiw
International Service: TBA
Community Service: Vacant
Youth Service: Rob Hill
Past President: Stephen Blacketer (Automatic appointment)
Public Officer: John Osborne
Disaster Coordinator: TBA
Protection Officer: Malcolm Horton
Thanks for standing and congratulations to all!
There remain a handful of vacant positions on the Board. PLEASE seriously consider how YOU might be able to support the Leadership team next year. NO EXPERIENCE Required!
We are fortunate to have several great mentors and a rich history of files and records to make it easy to step into any leadership role and Rotary has some excellent online (and human) resources to help you get up to speed.
Remember, everyone who has held a Board position in the past, started out the same way. It is a selling point that Rotary helps develop leadership skills and experience! Take advantage of the opportunity!
Next Monday Night's Meeting
If you have not yet returned the cash and ticket stubs for raffle tickets sold and all your unsold tickets to Pauline, pleasedo so NOW, before the draw at the meeting on Monday. Josh Teague, MP and Shadow Attorney General, will draw the winning tickets for both raffles at the start of the meeting.
We are also much looking forward to hearing from Riley Langrehr, who we sponsored to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award workshop. She will describe her experience and personaloutcomes of the programme.
We will then go into Committees to discuss progress on initiatives underway and to make further plans fo the balance of the year.
Jess Hazzel's Sailing Challenge
The following photos of Jess taken on board the tall ship "One and All" reached us too late for inclusion in last newsletter.
All crew members were subjected to a demanding roster of
Watches of 4 hours on and 4 hours off for the duration of the voyage.
Jess is seen, centre, in a green top receiving her
Certificate of Achievement from the Captain.
After only three days of training, the crew steps back to allow the trainees to take over all duties to get the vessel safely back to port!
Great stuff, Jess!
